The internet has hit the newspaper industry in the West, but in India it’s a different story as circulation and readership are rising.

In India, however, circulation has risen 33 percent from 2001 to 2005, according to India’s Registrar of Newspapers. And the potential is huge.

But thanks in part to the surge in advertising, only four newspapers out of more than 60,000 ceased publication between 2005 and 2006, according to the official Registrar for Newspapers in India.
