A new History Channel special will focus on eight American presidents who before serving as commander in chief, served in uniform in the United States military.

Presidents Day is a federal holiday that will occur this year on Feb. 19. According to History.com, a historical online archive of information, it dates back to 1800.

According to the History Channel, several states require schools to teach about the accomplishments of the chief executive in the days leading up to Presidents Day.
